Is Not crating dog bad?

ever since I got my dog at 8 weeks I've let her roam where she wanted. I've heard alll these people saying they crate their dogs when their not around but my dog is fine when alone and she has her own bed in her certain part of the house and she's potty trained she is now a year old was I wrong in not crating her? Is it something ur suppose to do?
